Daith Piercing

Do you suffer from severe headaches or migraines?

Well, the daith piercing might be a solution for you!

From a very young age, I’ve always suffered from headaches and very bad ones at that. At the age of 16, my doctor told me these headaches had now turned to migraines. I had abdominal basilar migraines. By the time I was 18, I was getting severe pains in my head almost every day of the month. I could barely lift my head of my pillow during some attacks. The tiniest bit of light would make me cry in pain. Loud noises or voices drove me insane. I was put on strong medication for these migraines but could only take one a day and that was never enough. As the years passed, they continued to get worse. They did become less often but the intensity was still severe.
The beginning of this year was probably the worst few months I had with migraines. My friends were even trying to find out solutions so I wouldn’t be in much pain. A couple of people had mentioned to me that there was this piercing in your ear that you can get to ease or completely get rid of migraines. I was willing to give anything a shot.

On the 7th of April, I woke up with the worst migraine I had in a few years. I was crying with the pain, could barely eat and had to put my sunglasses on before I even got out of bed and opened the curtains. That was it for me. Mam brought me to Newfaze in Portlaoise and I got my daith piercing. As soon as the needle went through, the pain instantly released, I am not joking. Within minutes the whole pain had gone. I could look out at the bright sky and sunshine and not cry in agony. I have the piercing for about 9 weeks now and I’ve not had one pain since.Just before I got the piercing, I was asked if I suffer with my sinus and of course I do!! Within seconds of the bar going through my ear, I could breathe through my nose with no problems for the first time in years.

Where the piercing goes is called the inner cartilage fold. The reason it is there is because it is an acupuncture pressure point and therefore relieves the tense that causes migraines.

Now, I am not great with needles and pain at all. On the same day, I got 4 other piercings and I had a panic attack after I got my double helix re-pierced. Because of this, the guy put extra numbing spray on my cartilage and I didn’t feel a thing when he was using the needle or inserting the bar.

After care is very important with ear piercings, especially the daith piercing.

Just like any other piercing, you have to clean it and look after it. I had to clean it 3 or 4 times a day with warm water and salt for about 2 or 3 weeks and then twice a day or when required after that.

Of course, something had to go wrong with my piercing after 2 days. I had really bad swelling but I know that is due to my TMJ and the cartilage in my jaws was trying to reject the foreign object in my ear! It had swollen so much that one of the little balls had fallen off and I had to pop back to NewFaze. I got the 6cm bar changed to a 10cm bar until the swelling reduced and then I got a 8cm bar in and haven’t looked back since.

I had very little pain with this piercing. My double helix was a lot more painful that the daith piercing.

If you are suffering from migraines or severe headaches, I 100% recommend the daith piercing. I know it has only been about 2 months since I got it done but the improvement has been incredible. I won’t be getting rid of my migraine tablets any time soon as I was warned I could still get one or two migraines but they wouldn’t be as bad as before.

Where I got the piercing, it cost me €30.

I hope this has been helpful. Let me know if you have it or plan on getting it!
